Ultimate Avengers Movie – With funds from their recent successful movie outtings, Marvel Comics are trying to produce features themselves. Ultimate Avengers their first forray. Marvel has a poor animated track record, particularly compared to the stellar cartoons made by DC. While Ultimate Avengers is better than much of Marvel’s animated dreck, it falls far short of being recommendable. All of the intrigue and humor of “The Ultimates” was whitewashed out to make a much more family-friendly “traditional” Avengers movie.

In the last book of Ultimates 2, Bruce Banner refuses to “Hulk out” to help repel alien invaders, and Nick Fury orders him thrown out of a helicopter, reasoning that he’ll either go splat or play ball. This did not happen in the Ultimate Avengers movie.

When Captain America is getting his ass handed to him in a pivotal battle with the general of the alien forces, the alien general says “Surrender, Captain America.” Captain America rallys, chops the alien in half with his shield and screams (pointing to his forehead) “Do you think this A stands for France?!!” This did not happen in the Ultimate Avengers movie.

I was disappointed.
